Dating back to the 17th century, this historic Grade II listed coaching inn stands as Reading’s oldest pub, steeped in tales and legacies.

Surrounded by history with the Abbey only a few minutes walk, the building itself is famous for being the pub with an ancient ‘Norman arch’ door.

Oozing with charm, the garden is a shining feature of The Rising Sun, with a number of decorated pergolas, a colourful shepherds hut bar and eight elegantly designed and heated dining pods.

The Rising Sun has undergone an extensive refurbishment, breathing new life into the centuries-old inn while retaining its historic charm.

Whether you dine inside or out, you are sure to be wowed by our beautiful surroundings. Expect a number of quiet nooks and atmospheric spaces in our bar area as well as a light and airy dining room, sure to hit the spot whatever the occasion.

Our beautiful pub offers seasonal and sustainability sourced dishes. Our Sunday roasts are legendary and come with bottomless trimmings.

We also have a children’s and Young Hearts menu that offers half portions of selected dishes from our seasonal à la carte menu.
